Field Investigations in Kirinyaga and Laikipia Counties – 11th to 13th November, 2024

11th November:

The team, led by Ms. Mary Njogu and Mr. Ernest Kioko, HSC, paid a courtesy call to the County Commissioner and held a consultative meeting with environmental stakeholders in Kirinyaga County.

The discussion focused on the proposed construction of a funeral home along the Makutano/Sagana Highway, which had raised concerns due to insufficient public participation.

Site Visit

12th November

Today, the team, led by Ms. Mary Njogu and Mr. Ernest Kioko, HSC, conducted a courtesy call with County Commissioner Mr. Onesmus Mutisya, MBS, followed by a consultative meeting with environmental stakeholders in Laikipia County.

The discussions focused on liquid waste management challenges in the Milimani and Ruai areas, which were attributed to the absence of a sewer system and a high water table.

This was followed by site visits.

13th November

The team investigated waste management issues in Nanyuki Town, Laikipia County. It was observed that the County Government of Laikipia manages daily garbage collection through scheduled routes.
