NECC deeply empathizes with the families who have lost loved ones to the floods in Mai Mahiu and other areas across the country. Our thoughts are with those affected, and we wish them a swift and complete recovery.
In light of this tragic loss, let us join on National Tree Growing Day to plant trees in honor and remembrance of our fellow countrymen and women who have passed away.
Today, the Forestry Principal Secretary, Mr. Gitonga Mugambi led the National Tree Growing Day activities at Kibiri Forest in Vihiga County. This event was significant as Vihiga County, designated by the Cabinet for restoration efforts, aims to increase its tree cover to 23 million trees by 2032.
Accompanying PS Mugambi were esteemed officials from both national and county governments, including Ms. Mary Njogu, Committee Secretary of NECC, County Commissioner Felix Watakila, Director of Administration Vincent Ongere, and Mrs. Rose Akombo from the National Tree Growing Secretariat, which oversees the allocation of the 15 billion budget dedicated to this initiative, among others.
