10 MILLION TREES INITIATIVE.

National Environmental Complaints Committee (NECC) led by the Committee members Dr. John Chumo, Ms. Isabella Masinde and Ms. Sylvia Kone joined Environment Cabinet Secretary and other stakeholders in the tree planting exercise during the launch of #Mau10MillionTrees at Sierra Leone which was held on 1st  November 2019. The initiative was to rehabilitate the Maasai Mau Water Tower.

Environment Cabinet Secretary Hon. Keriako Tobiko, who led a multi-agency team of government agencies and partners at Sierra Leone, announced that the areas were 100 per cent free of human habitation.

“For the last 60 days, we have done everything in the open and people left voluntarily. No bullet was fired nor anyone brutalized,” said Mr Tobiko.

In the support to restore Maasai Mau Forest, NECC donated 10, 000 tree seedlings. The Committee said the restoration of the forest was one of their recommendations in the numerous complaints NECC received on deforestation.In addition, the exercise would benefit millions living downstream in the Mara and Serengeti ecosystems
