From May 27th to 30th, 2024, National Environmental Complaints Committee conducted an induction for the newly appointed Committee Members: Mary Njogu (Committee Secretary), Ernest Mutinda, HSC (Member), Eng. Steve Muli (Member), and William Nairuko (Member).
Day 1: May 27th, 2024
The induction was inaugurated by Mr. Vincent Ongere, Director of Administration at the State Department for Environment and Climate Change, representing Principal Secretary Eng. Festus Ngeno. Mr. Ongere delivered the PS’s speech and officially opened the induction session. The afternoon session was led by Dr. John Chumo, Conservation Secretary of the State Department of Wildlife, who guided the team through the investigation process and explored the connection between NECC and County Governments.
Day 2: May 28th, 2024
Ms. Monica Weru from NECC’s Legal Department represented Ms. Annie Syombua, DCSC, MECC&F, and guided the team through the policy interactions between NECC and the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry (MECC&F). Subsequently, Samuel Okoti Matendechere, Director of Planning in the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, guided the team through the alignment of NECC’s Strategic Plan with the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry’s Strategic Plan and Performance Contracting.
Day 3: May 29th, 2024
Ms. Dolphine Maguare, Finance MECC&F, briefed the team on Public Finance Management, Government Cycles, and Procurement. In the afternoon, Mr. Erastus Gitonga, Acting Director of Legal Services at NEMA, elaborated on the connection between NECC and other EMCA institutions, highlighting potential areas of partnership with NEMA.
Day 4: May 30th, 2024
Dr. Robert Ng’ang’a from the Kenya School of Government provided an in-depth overview of the Principles of Corporate Governance, specifically the Mwongozo Code. Mr. Rodney Omari, Administrator, outlined the way forward. The day concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Mary Njogu, Committee Secretary, expressing gratitude to all participants.
