On Friday 17th May, 2024, Olteyani Primary School in Kiserian, Kajiado County, marked Elimu Tree Planting Day by planting 436 trees. The event, officiated by NECC Committee Secretary Ms. Mary Njogu, emphasized the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry’s initiative under CS Soipan Tuya, urging everyone to plant trees and contribute to the Presidential goal of 15 billion trees by 2032. Ms. Njogu encouraged students and teachers to plant trees on special occasions and stressed the importance of tree maintenance.
Ms. Fatima Mahmud, CEO of Amina Myren Foundation, praised the school’s efforts and linked her foundation’s food program to the students’ commitment to tree care. Mr. David Ndungu, Education Sub-County Quality Assurance Officer for Kajiado North, emphasized the symbiotic relationship between humans and trees.
The Headteacher thanked the visitors, assured them of the trees’ care, and highlighted the need for fencing to protect the trees from domestic animals, welcoming support for this effort.
