World Meteorological Day takes place every year on 23 March and commemorates the coming into force on 23 March 1950 of the Convention establishing the World Meteorological Organization. This organization showcases the essential contribution of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services to the safety and well-being of society.
Today, PS Environment and Climate Change, Eng. Festus Ng’eno, accompanied by NECC Committee Secretary Ms. Mary Njogu, and members of the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Environment, Mining, and Forestry, led by Kericho MP Hon Beatrice Kemei, received a warm welcome from representatives of the Kericho County Government, headed by County Secretary Dr. Wesley Bor, and Kenya Meteorological Department Director Dr. David Gikungu, at the Kericho Meteorological Station in Kericho County to officiate the #WorldMeteorologicalDay event.
This year’s theme, ‘At the Frontline of Climate Action’, highlights the crucial role of utilizing early warning weather and climate information for effective planning and decision-making to mitigate the adverse impacts of weather and climate risks. #ClimateAction
