GREENING NANDI COUNTY – TREE PLANTING EXERCISE AT KOITALEEL SAMOEI UNIVERSITY COLLEGE

In the 2nd week of June, NECC had been engaged in a 6-day tree planting activity in degraded wetlands, water catchment areas and degraded forest lands in the county. This was aimed at contributing to the achievement of 10% forest cover by 2022. The exercise was officiated by senior government officials.

The launch of tree planting drive for Nandi County kicked off at Kipkongorwa Wetland, Chesumei Sub-county on 5th June 2021during the World Environment Day held at Garissa University in Garissa County. NECC and the community members planted 5,000 tree seedlings in the Wetland.

Marking the climax of the Nandi Greening Initiative On 11th June 2021, NECC were thrilled to have , Sports, Culture and Heritage CAS Zachariah Kinuthia and his Education counterpart Hassan Noor Hassan officiating a tree planting exercise at Koitaleel Samoei University College, Nandi Hills where a total of 5000 tree seedlings were planted.

During the 6-day tree planting initiative in Nandi County, NECC together with other key stakeholders including Equity Bank, Family Bank, NEMA, KFS, Nyayo Tea Zone, County Government of Nandi amongst others were able to plant over 100, 000 tree seedlings. The Committee targets to plant 300, 000 tree seedlings in the County by the end of 2021.
