National Environment Complaints committee in conjunction with NEMA, KFS, and County Government of Kajiado and Homabay has today commenced a four-day youth groups training programme in the two Counties.The team is being led by the committee Secretary Dr. John Chumo, NECC members Ms. Isabella Masinde and Mr. Motari Matunda. Key among the activities being conducted by the committee include; sensitization on tree planting activities, importance of Environmental Conservation and Management, role of Government in supporting youth groups and raising of seedlings, linkage between the CFAs, CBOs, and National Government and County Government, and donation of tree nursery tools/equipment. The event is in support of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry’s efforts to increase Country’s 10% forest cover under the post covid 19 Economic Stimulus Program initiated by the President. NECC donated up to a capacity of 30,000 litre tanks of water to 6 Community Forest Associations and Self-help groups in Kajiado County and Homa Bay County for tree seedlings production. In Loitokitok, the groups that benefited from the tanks donation include; Loitokitok CFAs, Loitokitok Greening CBO and Kibiko CFA. In Homabay, WIFOMA CFA, Gembe CFA and KODERA CFA also received one water tank each.Feb 12, Friday (Tomorrow), the NECC team will conduct a training for Namanga Community Forest Association. On Saturday 13/02/2021, training for Green Hill Tree Nurseries Ngong and Kibiko CFA.The event will enable raising of tree nurseries thus promoting afforestation and reforestation and also to create public awareness on the importance of forest conservation. Kajiado County has a forest cover of 3.6% 7.4 short of the constitutionally accepted 10% forest cover while HomaBay County stands at 3.6 per cent.#TreesForBetterLives
