The NECC Team visited the North last week, the week starting September 22, 2014. The team visited the area purposely to investigate complaints of unchecked logging of trees in forests around Kapenguria area. The forests that were examined by NECC include Tarakit Hills, Kaptolomwon and Koroken forests within West Pokot. This was done in collaboration with NEMA and KFS officials.
Then the following day, the team visited Iten where investigations on noise pollution from a saw mill located by the school were carried out and followed up on deforestation of Kessup Forest. At Baringo County, shifting of drinking water bottling site from the approved site to another site in Sabatia Forest was also discussed.
In Nakuru Town a meeting was held to discuss of uncollected garbage in Molo Town after which the team visited a dumpsite at Gioto in London Estate.
